No digital out at all?

Hello!

Sorry for my possibly stupid question.

I'm searching a portable media (and MD is VERY portable smile.gif ) whith a good audio quality to record sounds and speech, possibly music, which I afterwards want to use on my computer.

I always had in my mind that MD would be a great media for that pupose, but since some days, after I saw a MZ-R909 for 250Euro, during collecting ionfo on MD, it seems, even good MD players don't have the possibility to send the audio digitally to the PC. Is it?

The other day, a vendor told me that Net-MD will probably be cracked so you could also upload audio to your computer, but if I read right, it's only designed to work one-way, so I don't think this could be hacked, could it?

If there's really no way to send the recorded audio digitally to the PC, MD is not for me. I'd not want to run my audio three times through A/D / D/A converters to have them on my computer! sad.gif

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for listening!

Dominique

thanks for your answer!

Now I'm very deceived! MD would be great for my purposes if Sony would include the digital uploading of songs.

But Sony apparently doesn't want to include features that would be great for the users.

Is there a reason? I'd think that it's much more a problem regarding copyrights to download those mp3s from the computer onto MD, than uploading what you have on MD to your computer???

Well, ok, I resign and keep on looking, but I don't think there's another reasonable priced while good quality portable media for recording... sad.gif

Best wishes,

Dominique

Yes, it would be too expensive! And it would bother me to buy a deck just to have that digital out. I'd rather pay 500 (or say 400 smile.gif ) Euro for a portable with digital out than 250 for the portable plus 250 for the deck, even if it's the same price. I don't need an MD deck. I'm fine with CDs and to burn a CD on my computer is no problem - I can play them back everywhere.

For me the huge advantage of MD recorder is that it's so small that I could take it with me and make good quality recordings. It would just be such a tiny, but great addition to have a digital out... well - I think I'm a bit angry with Sony and Co. They play games with the users.

I'll continue to look for a 'cheap' good quality media for mobile recording.

It's a shame, because I really like this forum smile.gif

Thanks again!

Best wishes,

Dominique

Stop blaming Sony. No one has an MD portable with an optical (digital) out. It hasn't been done for years. There are some older models, but the audio quality is not as good and they're hard to find, so forget about it.

Those of us that are serious about the medium and the ability to upload digitally to a PC have all gone down this path before. The end of the road has you staring at a deck with digital i/o. Go get one and start enjoying fun.

BTW: Used stuff costs less...

1) I said "Sony and co."

2) You must work for those MD manufacturers to tell me to buy a portable drive PLUS a home deck JUST for that digital-out feature which could be easily included in the portable drives. smile.gif

I won't!

Best wishes!

  • 3 weeks later...

I think the reason NetMD only works one way is to prevent users from ripping songs from CD and then putting it on their PC for free trade...you know...copyright protection. I could be wrong.

As for the digital upload to PC dilemma...I JUST went through the same thing. I ended up buying a used MD deck for $80 on eBay so I would have the optical out. Not too bad, I'd say. Of course, I'm using it for recording my favorite band in concert so I can remember the concert experience for years to come.
